Robert Marquez of Grants was the other big winner Saturday evening when Mrs. Fire and Ice drew his ticket as the winner of the Mainstreet Bike Giveaway as her first official duty.

Rally attendees receive tickets to the drawing with paid admission to the Budweiser Pavillion on either Friday or Saturday. The Harley Davidson motorcycle is shown below.

Bike giveaway

Threatening thunderstorms Saturday moved the rally crowd under the big tent where they were entertained by Foghat, the featured band of the evening. With more than 2000 fans, it was the best crowd ever under the tent according to Donald Jaramillo, Fire and Ice Bike Rally Chairman.

Melissa Munkres (left) of Raton is the first annual Mrs. Fire & Ice. Shown here with another big winner, Robert Marquez, who held the winning ticket for the Harley Davidson Motorcycle given away by Grants Mainstreet.

Mrs. Munkres will receive a packet to attend the 2009 Fire and Ice Bike Rally along with 2009 merchandise. Congratulations!

Biker Baby Contest

 
       
 

 

More than two dozen tattoed hopefuls, ranging from six months to 12 years, competed in five different age groups of the Biker Baby Contest. The event drew a larger than usual crowd as the participants showed off their biker attire.

Alyzae Dean shown at right waving to the crowd was the winner of the 2 - 4 year old division.

Amber Garcia was the winner of the mini bike.

Que Loco! Both amateurs and professionals from the local area and as far away as California showed off their fighting skills Sunday afternoon during 10 MMA bouts. The popular sport kept attendance up on the last day of the rally as about 1300 fans cheered their favorites in the matches under the big tent. The fighting event was organized by Promoter, Freddy Sandoval of Albuquerque. Grants' fighter, Julian Chavez was awarded the MVP Award for showing the "most heart and will to fight".

"The Canadian" Makes his Fourth Rally

Guy St Cyr, is a regular at the Fire and Ice Bike Rally. He rode in solo on his 2007 Harley Super Glide all the way from Quebec. Always a strong competetitor, he placed first in several rodeo events. photo

Always a popular favorite, Tobias Rene entertained the largest crowd to date on a Sunday.

 

Sunday Poker Run

Sunday's Poker Run Line-up

  Entrants in the Poker Runs held both Saturday and Sunday were down in numbers by a few hundred, according to Rally Chairman, Donald Jaramillo. There are usually about 500 bikers. High gas prices and stormy weather didn't dampen the enthusiasm in this group of bikers shown awaiting the start of the Poker Run on Sunday which ended at Dancing Eagle Casino. More photos
